Clinical Director, Jessica Cashman, unveils the CPoW Blog

Ess-BlogLaunch-Desk-WPI’m sitting at my desk at the Center, and it’s my birthday. Don’t worry. I’ll be cutting out soon to enjoy the afternoon, celebrating with my husband. In the meantime, I am feeling reflective. Last year on my birthday my husband and I were camping. It might sound like a nice little vacay, but by that point, we had mastered the art of the work-and-camp weekend. We were sketching the concept for the logo of the Center.

The Center has grown in ways I never anticipated and has forced me to grow in ways I never thought possible.

It blows my mind that just over a year ago the Center was only an idea. We officially launched the Center on August 1, 2009. Now, we have an awesome office, a team of world-class therapists, an iconic logo, and an ambitious mission to empower women (and men) to experience freedom on their own terms. The Center has grown in ways I never anticipated and has forced me to grow in ways I never thought possible.

I have had to become more tolerant of fear. Almost every day of the past year I have been scared shitless about everything from how to run the business, to how the Center will be received by colleagues, to doing right by our clients. I can recall a day a few months ago when I knew it was all worth it: It was a busy day at the Center and our clients were coming early for their sessions and staying late to enjoy a cup of coffee, read a magazine, or talk in our waiting room. The clients are the soul of the Center and their stories inspire us to work harder every day. Realizing that this was a place where they felt comfortable and understood was so rewarding. The community I had hoped for was forming organically.

As we pass the one year anniversary of the Center, we are opening another new chapter. We are so appreciative of the spirit of camaraderie within our four walls that we want to give back and expand our community. Today we are announcing the launch of our blog, your source for cultural commentaryinterviewsessays, and advice. Our team of psychological mavens are bringing the chic back to the feminine mystique in the City of Angeles, and we’re excited to share with you!

The blog has been designed as a launchpad for conversations with you and the rest of the Center tribe. We invite you to tell us what you think of our content, pitch us story ideas, or send us links to your other favorite blogs. We look forward to having you as part of our community. We can’t wait to hear what you have to say!

All the best,
Jessica Cashman
